I can bowl...but I'm not a bowler. Oh, I can emulate a bowler. I've seen enough people do it that I can even do it with some flair:
- Step on wood platform from viewing seats.
-
Casually step up and sort through balls to find the one I've chosen to play with.
-
Spin ball to place holes with one hand while I allow air blower to dry sweat from my other hand.
-
Snatch ball into hand.
-
Step decidedly to the starting location.
-
Eye the lane...pause...
-
Step forward, swing, lunge, launch ball and then,
-
Finish with one leg slid behind and far to the side, gyrate, twist, jump and body English the ball to the far end of the lane.
I have absolutely no real idea what I'm doing. But, all the same, I can bowl.
The same is true for writing. I can write, but I'm not a writer. So, it's with great excitement that I get to snitch and let the word out that Jenni Keller's workshop at MinistryCOM is going to be at the top of my list. I've seen Jenni's outline and her slides...and this is going to be a great session for anyone who needs to write, but isn't a writer (and that's many of us in church communications) And I think for writers, it will be a refreshing session - one that will nourish and affirm.
When MinistryCOM organizers were looking for someone to lead a session on writing - and they knocked on my email in-basket for recommendations - Jenni came instantly to mind. Jenni leads a team that has, for some years, published a first rate magazine for her congregation. (now, I must confess that our own Fishhook writers Janie and Janice do contribute now to the writing effort, but the pub was outstanding way BEFORE we got anywhere close to it.)
So...if you're going to MinistryCOM, put Jenni's session on your agenda.
Jenni, I'm so excited to sit at your feet (or at least near you in a chair) and learn first hand about how to approach my writing on purpose. Who knows...maybe you'll make a writer of me yet? Blessings friend. You're gonna knock it outta the park.
