100+ church communicators were the "presenters" for this open discussion. Roles ranged from Administrative Assistants focusing on weekly bulletins to Communications Directors managing 20 member staffs.
Highlights:
1. A ministry that serves all the others (like communications) should not directly report to an end-user ministry. Eg. Comm. shouldn’t report to Worship.
2. Good suggestion: the communications department handles anything that goes to the masses; ministries handle everything that goes to their audiences.
3. Informal survey regarding staffing:
• 70% have a full time graphic designer.
• 25% have a full time project manager.
• 30% serve as the entire role of planner, designer, writer, etc.
4. Favorite quote: "I see myself as a servant to every department. When I started, I focused on fixing the broken things. Then I started looking ahead and vision casting where we want to go. Having the voice of the senior pastor is crucial."
